Why call it “Kuneo”?

The word used in the New Testament for worship was “proskuneo.” ‘Pros’ means ‘through or towards’ and ‘kuneo’ means ‘to kiss.’ The original word for ‘worship’ means ‘towards kissing.’ We think that’s a powerful image. For us, good worship is like a good kiss. It should be something you anticipate. You’re vulnerable while doing it and you learn something about yourself and the other in the process. It’s exciting, feels good and if it’s a little awkward sometimes…that’s okay. (No, we don’t make out with each other during worship).

What’s worship like at Kuneo?

We worship “in the round” with the communion table in the middle. Our songs are usually ones known from the radio. “Sermons” are conversational. Everything is very casual and low-key. If you don’t laugh and learn something during the worship gathering, we haven’t done our job. Usually people hang out afterwards. Most of the folks in the room are 18-35, but anyone of any age is welcomed by the community. We’re good at making people feel at home.
