Racial Equity at Union

At Union, we’ve worked hard to become a place of Sanctuary for the LGBTQ+ community. However, we have fallen short in providing the same for people of color, as is evident in the lack of diversity within our worshipping community. Recognizing this, Union leadership applied and was accepted to participate in Dallas Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation’s 2022 cohort program. This cohort was extensive and thorough in education, coaching and practical implementation. As a result, Union is creating two things: A Racial Equity Policy and Theory of Change.

While both of these are still a work in progress, we wanted to share the progress we’ve been making.

Racial Equity Theory of Change

Racial Equity Outcome:

A racially equitable and affirming place of sanctuary in hiring, programming, leadership, and experience at Union within 3 years through 35 annual hours of racial equity education each year and to center Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Latin/Hispanic communities and partnerships in our programming. We will use an evaluation tool that holds us accountable to this work quarterly.

What we hope to address:

People of color experience Union differently than white people and do not feel a sense of Sanctuary.
